Leadership & Faith
I recently sat down with Steven Wilson for an episode of the Firm Foundations Podcast, part of the Kingdom Factor collective, to talk about something I don't often put into words: what it actually looks like to let faith shape the way I lead and serve clients at FocusPros. Here are a few of the things we talked about, and why they matter to how this company operates.
For a long time it was easy to think of work, family, and faith as three different rooms I moved between. The conversation pushed me to talk about what changes when those rooms become one house instead, when the way I treat a client on a Tuesday afternoon is governed by the same convictions that shape how I show up at home.
I don't walk into client conversations trying to convince anyone of anything spiritually. The approach I described on the show is closer to farming than persuasion: plant something honest, tend it with consistency, and trust that the results aren't ultimately up to me. As I put it on the episode, "One man plants, another man waters, but God provides the growth." That posture changes how I listen, how I ask questions, and how much pressure I put on a single conversation to prove anything.
One story I shared was about walking away from a contract renewal detail that would have benefited me and hurt a client's understanding of what they were signing. It cost me money in the short term. It was also not a hard decision, because the alternative wasn't something I was willing to live with.
A recurring theme was that pressure doesn't create character, it reveals it. The habits that hold up under a big decision are the same ones practiced in a hundred small ones nobody else ever sees. That's as true for a growing consulting firm as it is for anything else.
When Steven asked how I actually make hard calls, my honest answer was simpler than a decision framework: I pay attention to whether a choice leaves me with peace or without it. If a deal, a hire, or a project doesn't sit right, no amount of upside changes that. It's a filter I'd recommend to any leader, regardless of faith background.
